Authentic Self Empowerment

Coaching & Parts Work: Somatic & Transpersonal approaches

A fireside conversation with Jules De Vitto, Jevon Dangeli and transpersonal practitioners, exploring how to work with ‘parts’ (subpersonalities & shadows) in the context of coaching and facilitating.

We discuss what is meant by ‘parts work’ and why it is so effective for guiding clients towards alignment with their authentic selves. Parts work stems from many psychological disciplines, including Psychosynthesis, Gestalt Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Jungian Archetypal work and Somatics. Each discipline has its own methodology. In ASE (including transpersonal coaching), we draw from these disciplines and approach working with parts in a somatic and client-centred manner.

When we are triggered by someone or are feeling stuck/blocked in a particular situation, it’s usually the presence of parts which are trying to protect us. By identifying and integrating our parts, we create more choice and resiliency, expand our capacity to creatively problem-solve, and we cultivate a greater sense of wholeness and aliveness in our daily lives.

In ASE, it is through somatic open awareness, ‘Re-Sourcing’ processes and embodiment practice that we identify and integrate parts. We will explore ways to apply this in sessions with clients. As coaches or facilitators, we also need to be aware of our own parts and we will consider how to utilize ASE methods to maintain awareness and promote integration of our parts too.
