Embodiment Practice

somatic – soul – social attunement

THIS PAGE IS BEING DEVELOPED (THE CURRENT CONTENT IS NOT FINAL)

Are you Living in your body?

Feel, look, listen and learn from your body.
Nobody knows you better than your body does.

What underlies many of the global problems that we face today, is that we have become somewhat disembodied – out of touch with the flowing feeling of aliveness within and between us.

With the demands and delusions imposed upon us these days, living an embodied life has never been more challenging, yet never been more crucial.

Embodiment means being in touch with your inner experiences as they fluctuate in response to all situations and relationships. It’s your personal GPS to naturally navigate the complexity and changes that you confront in all areas of life.

If we are to get beyond merely surviving, and shift toward thriving – individually and collectively, then we need to live more in tune with our soma-soul-social connections.

Embodiment can be understood as being in tune with your soma-soul-social connection.

Embodiment supports healing and healthy decision making, while enhancing awareness of your emotions and motivations, as well as internal feedback on your relationships.

This Embodiment Practice (EP) also promotes intuition and enhances your ability to identify emotional and behavioural triggers, while enabling you to respond to those more consciously and resourcefully. Additionally, EP helps to balance your vital energies, cultivate inner strength and resilience, as well as provide a foundation for empathy and compassion.

EP involves grounding and balancing exercises that bring awareness to what is present in your body, in your physical environment, and in your relationships. This somatic anchoring helps to restore and regulate your state if you are feeling scattered, fragmented, or out of balance. Therefore, EP can compensate for the negative consequences of excessive screentime – digital zombie syndrome. EP may also promote healing, sensemaking and integration for people in distress, anxiety, and burnout.

Ultimately, EP is about connecting with your inner sense of ‘aliveness’ and establishing ways to purposefully express your ‘realness’ in all areas of life.

From the EP workshop you will gain practical skill that can be applied by anyone. Therapists, coaches, and healing practitioners will be able to incorporate this tool in their professional practice.

The Embodiment Practice workshop will follow these 5 steps:

  1. Collective centering – intentionally co-creating a safe and conscious participatory space.
  2. Somatic open awareness – gentle meditative movements and breathing exercises – standing or seated (e.g. jumi awarenessing).
  3. Somatic experiencing & mapping – embodied witnessing and making a ⃰somap (somatic map) of what is alive/present in your soma.
( ⃰Somaps can be drawn on paper or represented as a physical posture/shape or movement)
  4. Embodied inquiry – sharing experiences and somaps, exploring common themes and what is emerging/unfolding in the group’s shared space – collective sensemaking.
  5. Integrating – embodied journaling of your core insight from the session, clarifying your response to it, and imagining how you will enact your response.

Join us for this experiential and fun embodiment workshop.

As ASE Facilitators, we recognise that the state of your physical health and body constitution is more than the result what you consume and do, or don’t do. The state of a person’s body and health is also influenced by epigenetic phenomena, including social, political and economic factors, as well as the attitudes, beliefs and protective mechanises that can stem from adverse childhood experiences and trauma. Therefore, ASE Embodiment Practice involves both individual and group practice in a supportive and nurturing space to integrate somatic and social awareness.

We view the body as a sacred container for the soul. In our monthly Embodiment Practice group sessions (via Zoom) we co-create a collective sacred space to foster healing and integration.

Embodiment Practice Community FAQ

The first session addresses your physiological needs and desired outcome in this context. Typical examples include taking optimal care of the body’s basic needs and its requirements for optimal performance, e.g., water, nutrition, sleep, rest, movement/activity, space/environment, physical health and well-being, input/output, energy management, etc.

In the second session, your safety and security needs are addressed, including your desired outcome in terms of development in the mind/mental context. Typical examples of what may be considered in this context may include personal security, emotional security, financial security, motivation, mental health and well-being, attention, concentration, memory, etc.

In the third session, your love and belonging (connection) needs are addressed. Your desired outcome in the context of emotions (emotion regulation, emotional freedom, emotional intelligence) is also a determining factor of the focus in this session. Typical examples of what emerges for resolution in this session can include overwhelming emotions, negative emotional reactions, lack of emotional engagement, disconnection from emotions, family disharmony, friendship or intimacy challenges, commitment or companionship issues, etc.

In the fourth session, your esteem needs are addressed, including your desired outcome in the interpersonal (relationship) context. The issues and outcomes that are usually focused on in this session are often interwoven with those that were focused on in the previous session, thus, this session may serve as a continuation of the previous process. Examples of what is typically focused on in this session include: low confidence, relationship conflicts, acceptance issues (regarding self or others), work or social group concerns, respect and/or recognition issues, communication problems, inferiority complexes, people pleasing behaviours, difficulties in connecting with people, discomfort being alone, independence issues, limited ability to empathize or feel compassion (toward oneself or others), etc.

In the fifth session you can address values relating to self-actualization (e.g. discovering and harnessing your true potential) and transcendence values (e.g. integrating widened perspectives or spiritual experiences into your life). Examples of issues that may be raised for resolution in this session can include a loss of meaning in life, lack of purpose, existential issues, spiritual awakening/crisis, making sense of changes in perspective, integrating significant life experiences, etc.

In the sixth session, you will be guided to consolidate your insights from the previous 5 sessions and from your 5 weeks of engaging in the ASE practices. Any ‘loose ends’ will be tied and your overall objective for the coaching program will be crystallized in terms of commitment to next steps and the journey ahead toward the fulfillment of your clearly defined vision or purpose. Also within this last session, your ICP Facilitator will help you to map out your personalised practice for the purpose of integrating your new state, perspectives and resources into all the relevant areas of your life.

One month after your last session, you can fill in the ‘Needs and Values Fulfillment Scale’ for a second time in order to compare your level of fulfillment in each context to those from before the program. By emailing your new scores to your ICP Facilitator, you will receive further guidance including fine-tuning your personalized practice, if necessary, and suitable support for your ongoing development.
